Polyisobutylene (Binder)
Polyisobutylene (Butyl rubber)
High molecular weight polyisobutylene is an elastic rubbery product.
Polyisobutylene is used in pyrotechnics as a good binder in rocket fuels.
To make a binder, you will need polyisobutylene, galosh gasoline (pure gasoline) and a plasticizer, Vaselin oil or dibutyl phthalate.
Mix the binder in proportions:
1 part polyisobutylene
1 part dibutyl phthalate or vaselin oil
20 parts - pure gasoline
The polyisobutylene should be added in small pieces for faster dissolution.
Dissolution will take about 3-4 days in a warm place.
The resulting solution is added to the fuel in an amount of 1 to 2% (in terms of polyisobutylene).
For example, in 100 g of fuel, you need to add 22 g of the resulting solution (this will be 1% polyisobutylene). After mixing, the fuel must be dried and passed through a sieve.
The fuel is ready for use.
After pressing, the fuel does not lose its elasticity, thanks to this, the rockets are more reliable.
