Paper hemi-shells are used to make display shells different sizes.
The
size of the paper shell corresponds to the diameter of the mortar tube from
which the display shell will be launched.
For example, the diameter of 3” paper
hemi-shell is 67mm, and the size of the mortar tube for launching is 76mm. This difference in diameters is provided for pasting the shells with kraft paper and for installing the quick match fuse on the side of the ball and pulling out of the mortar tube.
